An Inspiring Field of Competitors? Heck Yes.

2014 Winter Olympiad Results!

The first Gymnasium Winter Olympiad was an incredible day in every way. There is something uniquely inspiring about cheering for someone while they try to do their absolute best. We watched a lot of participants surprise themselves and joined all of the spectators in being blown away by the display of Everyday Awesome.

Our approach is unique in that we focus on progression, not competition. We measure ultimate success by moving an individual’s needle forward, not how they compare to another. It was individual versus a movement for a specific period of time. The events provided very concrete definitions of ability across our curriculum of Anchor movements. What was even cooler, was that a lot of people finished saying “I think I can do better next time!” That is the stuff. That seed is where fitness stops being about a mindless errand where any sweat will do, and where it begins to become a locomotive force for uncovering your own personal amazing.

It’s always incredible to watch the the world’s Olympians do there rare-air thing every couple years, but that’s nothing compared to gathering with the people of your everyday life, taking a break from the One Million Things, and celebrating the power of truly amazing ability and the others who helped you achieve it.

I’ll be the first to say that what I can do, quantitatively and qualitatively, since starting Gymnasium continues to increase. I’m substantially more able than I was when we first opened our doors. Without the encouragement, the spirit, and the connections that animate our every day here, I’d probably doing my best to squeeze in my exercise errands in as well. And not bringing enough heat to my intensity, or mindfulness to my complexity, to move my ability needle anywhere. Gymnasium has made me, in clear terms, so much more than I could have been on my own.

An Inspiring Field of Competitors? Heck Yes.
