Feb 8th: Winter Olympiad at Gymnasium!

Much of what gets done in the name of high-level fitness is highly specialized. Think: triathlon or lifting a lot of weight. The bad news, news that athletes and fitness adepts seldom fully grasp, is that specialization is the way of injury and mileage. Enemies # 2 & 1 of long road fitness, the only true type of fitness. “Pain is temporary, glory is forever”? Yeah. Those who’ve really lived that know it’s actually the other way around.

We’ve designed an event to test your balance of Strength, Power, Stamina and Movement mastery across universal, recognized patterns of ability. Think running an obstacle course (many dimensions!) instead of a marathon (one dimension).

On Feb 8th, we’re hosting the first Gymnasium Olympiad!  Events are drawn from our Anchor curriculum–the heart of our Strength & Movement program. There are a mix of loaded movements and bodyweight movements that will tell you exactly what level of strength and movement ability you have.

You can come to test yourself, cheer on others, or both! All are welcome. Free for members and friends and family. There will be a $20 event charge (and a waiver to sign!) for non-members who wish to enter a scheduled event.

Here’s the agenda for Feb 8th, organized so that participation in multiple events is definitely possible and encouraged :) We suspect there may be some decathletes+ in our ranks!

We’ll finish with a group Swingathon. The goal being to complete your longest continuous swing set with your choice of weight. If you’ve never done this before, we’ll help you set expectations before the timer hits. Those who are familiar, we’ll max at 30:00 or until all ‘bells are on the ground. We’ll do this as a team, all together, music turned up. Bring your home ‘bell if you like!

After the Swingathon, we’ll hang out, catch our breath, and recognize performances. Good music + good people + play time. There will be awards!

Here are the details for each event. Notice there are long and short set versions of both. This is a celebration of where you are at. Give yourself and everyone a chance to celebrate you. If you’ve been training with us for a week or a year, you are ready!
